President Donald Trump travels to Chillicothe, Ohio, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to headline a midterm campaign rally at the Shoemaker Center on the Ohio University Chillicothe campus, six days before voters decide control of Congress and a pair of marquee Ohio races on November 3. The Trump Chillicothe rally is the president's latest stop in a final-week blitz through battleground states, and it puts him in Ross County on the same day his White House schedule includes an intelligence briefing, a meeting with the Artemis III crew and a signing session before he boards Air Force One for Ohio.

Doors at the Shoemaker Center open at 3:30 p.m., the programme begins at 5:30 p.m. and the president's remarks are scheduled to start at 7 p.m., according to the Republican National Committee event listing. Admission is free, but attendees must register in advance, with sign-ups limited to four tickets per person and confirmation by text message before tickets become valid.

What Happened

Wednesday's White House schedule lays out a full day before the Ohio trip. The president participates in executive time at 8 a.m., receives his intelligence briefing at 11 a.m., takes part in a policy meeting at 12:30 p.m. in the Oval Office and greets the Artemis III crew at 1:30 p.m., also in the Oval Office. A second policy meeting follows at 2 p.m., and signing time is set for 3:30 p.m. He then departs the White House for Chillicothe, with a policy meeting aboard Air Force One at 5:30 p.m., before arriving in Chillicothe for the 7 p.m. remarks. The schedule has him departing Chillicothe after the event and returning to the White House the same night.

The rally venue was confirmed days before the visit. The Chillicothe Gazette reported that the event would be held at the Shoemaker Center, a recreation building on the Chillicothe campus that features a walking track, a full-length basketball court and a fitness centre. The building was dedicated in 1979 and, according to the Ohio University website, can accommodate around 2,400 spectators. The address is 101 University Drive in Chillicothe.

Local preparations have been under way for days. The City of Chillicothe said in a Facebook post that the City Park Annex, Kopp Street and the Paint Creek Recreational Trail and flood wall, from Kopp Street to the Riverside Street access ramp, would be closed from noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday because of the president's visit, with additional closures possible throughout the day as needed. The city urged drivers to plan accordingly. Southern Ohio Career Academy announced an early dismissal at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday because of the anticipated traffic and road closures, and Chillicothe police said drivers should expect heavier traffic and some road closures around the campus.

Background and Context

Ohio's ballot carries two races that have drawn national attention and national money. In the special Senate election, Husted faces Brown for the seat that Vice President JD Vance vacated. In the governor's race, Ramaswamy, whom Trump endorsed, faces Acton. Early voting is already under way in Ohio and runs through October 30, ahead of the November 3 election.

Polling shows both contests close. The Suffolk University/USA TODAY Ohio Network survey of likely voters, released October 28, showed Brown leading Husted 47 percent to 44 percent, within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points. Libertarian Bill Redpath and independent Greg Levy each drew 1.6 percent. Brown maintained an advantage with independent voters, winning 52 percent compared with Husted's 24 percent, according to the survey, and Suffolk's David Paleologos said independents would determine the outcome in Ohio. The governor's race has polled just as tightly, with a Suffolk survey showing Acton at 48 percent and Ramaswamy at 44 percent.

Trump's Ohio swing is part of a wider closing argument. On Tuesday, October 27, he held a Texas double-header, with remarks in Corpus Christi in the afternoon and a rally in Lubbock in the evening for Senate candidate Ken Paxton. At Lubbock, he said his administration was terminating the Biden-era rule aimed at cutting methane emissions from oil and gas drilling, a change he said would save companies and consumers billions of dollars and unlock 210 million barrels of oil. He told the crowd he was officially terminating what he called Biden's expensive and unnecessary methane regulations to save consumers and energy producers 45 billion dollars in costs.

The Chillicothe visit also continues a pattern of frequent Ohio-area stops. Local reporting described it as Trump's fourth visit to the state and region in a matter of weeks, following rallies in Youngstown and Dayton and a stop in northern Kentucky. Ohio has been a focal point of the midterm campaign, with outside spending in the state ranking among the highest in the country and both parties treating its Senate and governor races as tests of their national standing.

Trump Chillicothe Rally: What to Expect on the Ground

Attendees should expect a familiar rally format: a warm-up programme from 5:30 p.m., with the president's remarks at 7 p.m. as the centrepiece. The Shoemaker Center's roughly 2,400-person capacity makes it a far more intimate setting than the arenas Trump has used for larger rallies, and demand for the free tickets has been handled through the Republican National Committee's event page.

Travel around Chillicothe will be disrupted for much of the day. The city's published closures cover the City Park Annex, Kopp Street and the Paint Creek trail and flood wall from noon until 9 p.m., and police have warned of heavier traffic near the Ohio University Chillicothe campus. Schools and commuters have adjusted around the visit, with the Southern Ohio Career Academy's early dismissal the most visible local change.

Security and logistics for a presidential visit also mean rolling closures beyond the published list, as the city itself has noted, with additional closures occurring throughout the day as needed. Visitors are advised to arrive early, to expect screening at the venue and to follow directions from local police and event staff.

Reactions and Quotes

Local officials have framed the visit mainly in practical terms. The City of Chillicothe urged drivers to plan accordingly around the closures, while Chillicothe police warned of heavier traffic and road closures around the campus on Wednesday. The Gazette's reporting on the venue announcement noted the Shoemaker Center's history and capacity, and local coverage has stressed that tickets are free but must be reserved in advance.

On the campaign trail on Tuesday, Trump previewed the themes he has carried into the final week. In Texas, he told supporters his administration was terminating the methane rule, saying it had crushed small operators with crippling regulations. He also urged data centre owners to pay people in the communities where they want to build, telling the crowd not to turn data centres down because somebody else would take them and they would be very unhappy. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who travelled with the president in Texas, told one crowd that America's enemies are weaker and the country is stronger and its people are safer because Donald J. Trump is the president of the United States.

Democrats, meanwhile, have pointed to the polling. The Suffolk survey's finding that Brown leads among independents by a wide margin has been seized on by Brown's supporters as evidence that the race remains open despite heavy Republican outside spending. Republican backers counter that Husted remains within the margin of error and that late-deciding voters in Ohio have often broken toward their candidate in past cycles.

Why It Matters

The Chillicothe rally matters because Ohio is one of the few states where both a Senate seat and the governor's office are genuinely in play in the same cycle, and because the final week of a midterm campaign is when undecided voters and sporadic voters make up their minds. A presidential visit does not change the fundamentals of either race, but it dominates local news coverage, energises volunteers and gives both campaigns a fresh round of footage and fundraising appeals.

It also matters for turnout. Early voting ends October 30, so the rally lands in the last days when Ohioans can cast a ballot before Election Day itself. Campaigns on both sides have treated the early-vote period as critical, and a high-profile visit in southern Ohio is aimed squarely at voters in a region both parties believe could tip a close statewide result.

Finally, the visit is a test of Trump's closing message. His Texas remarks on methane regulation, energy costs and data centres signalled an economic pitch aimed at voters worried about prices, while his repeated attacks on Democratic opponents and his warnings about voter fraud have kept the campaign's harder edge. How those themes land in Chillicothe, a smaller city far from the state's big metropolitan media markets, will be watched as a guide to the final six days.

What Happens Next

Trump delivers his remarks at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Shoemaker Center, then departs Chillicothe for the White House the same night, according to the White House schedule. The rally's speeches and crowd reaction will set the tone for the remaining days of the Ohio campaign, with both the Husted and Brown camps and the Ramaswamy and Acton camps expected to respond quickly.

Early voting in Ohio continues through October 30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, when Ohio voters will also weigh in on the statewide races alongside contests across the country that will decide control of the House and Senate. Results in the Senate special election and the governor's race are expected to be among the most closely watched of the night.

For Chillicothe itself, normal service resumes on Thursday: the published road and trail closures end at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, and the Shoemaker Center returns to its usual role as a campus recreation building. The political after-effects, in the form of advertising, volunteer activity and media attention, will linger well beyond the president's departure.
