The Harkla sensory swing recall now covers 25,541 children's swings sold in the United States, after the ceiling hook on the product separated in 29 reported cases and left 14 children injured, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall, announced on 29 October 2026 and carried in the CPSC's 30 October 2026 safety roundup, centres on a blue fabric compression swing whose four-hole ceiling hook can separate from its mounting plate. When that hardware fails, a child using the swing can fall without warning, and the reported injuries include two concussions, a broken arm, and bumps and bruises. Families are being told to stop using the affected swings immediately until they are repaired with a free kit from the company.

Key Points

• The Harkla sensory swing recall covers 25,541 swings in the United States and 5,534 more in Canada, for a total of about 31,075 units.
• Harkla has received 29 reports of the ceiling hook separating from its mounting plate, including 14 injuries: two concussions, a broken arm, and bumps and bruises.
• Only blue fabric compression swings with a four-hole ceiling hook are included; the package SKUs are LS-COMP-1BLU and LS-COMP-1BLU-SW.
• The swings were sold from March 2020 through December 2025 through Amazon, Harkla and other retailers.
• The remedy is a free repair kit with a replacement mounting plate, a safety strap and updated instructions; owners should stop using the swing until it is repaired.

What Happened

Base Products LLC, doing business as Harkla, recalled its children's compression sensory swings after the suspension hardware, not the fabric seat, proved to be the weak point. According to the CPSC, the ceiling hook can separate from its plate, creating a risk of serious injury from a fall. The company received 29 reports of that separation. In 14 of those cases, a child was hurt. Two children suffered concussions, one suffered a broken arm, and the remaining reported injuries were bumps and bruises. The recall notice does not describe a single incident in detail, and it does not say that any death was reported. What it establishes clearly is a pattern: the same failure, repeated across separate reports, with injuries that ranged from minor bruising to head injury and a broken bone.

The recall was posted by the CPSC on 29 October 2026, as part of a batch of new recalls and safety warnings, and it was then summarised in the consumer safety roundup dated 30 October 2026. That timing matters for families who may have bought the swing years ago and no longer follow the seller. A product sold as recently as December 2025 can still be hanging in a playroom, a bedroom or a therapy corner today, and its owner may never have seen the original recall notice. The CPSC's instruction in this case is unambiguous: stop using the recalled swing immediately until it is repaired. It is not a warning to use the swing more carefully, or only under supervision, or only for lighter children. The instruction is to take it out of use and fix the mounting hardware first.

Background and Context

A compression sensory swing is a stretchy fabric swing that hangs from a single ceiling point and wraps around the child, giving a snug, cocoon-like hold. The recalled Harkla model is a blue fabric version sold with a four-hole hook and ceiling mounting hardware. That hardware is the whole safety story here. A ceiling-mounted swing puts its full load, plus the dynamic force of swinging, bouncing and shifting weight, through one small metal assembly. If the hook separates from the plate, there is no second support to catch the fall. The fabric itself is not identified as the problem in the recall, which is why the remedy is a hardware repair kit rather than a replacement swing.

The sales window is long: March 2020 through December 2025, almost six years, through Amazon, Harkla's own store and other retailers. That span covers a period when home-based play equipment and sensory products became far more common in family homes, and it means many of the 25,541 American units may have changed hands, been handed down to a younger sibling, or been resold. A second-hand buyer will not necessarily receive a recall notice from the original seller, which is why the identifying details matter more than the brand name alone. The recall covers only swings with the four-hole hook. Other Harkla swings, or the same blue swing fitted with different hardware, are not included on the facts published so far, so owners need to check the hook and the packaging rather than assuming every Harkla product is affected.

The Canadian figure adds another 5,534 units, taking the combined North American total to about 31,075. The CPSC figures are for the United States, and the Canadian units were reported alongside them in the same recall coverage. Families in either country with the same blue compression swing and four-hole hook should follow the same step: stop using it, check the SKU, and register for the free repair kit.

Harkla Sensory Swing Recall: How to Check Your Swing

Start with the hook. The recalled swings are blue fabric compression swings sold with a four-hole ceiling hook and mounting hardware. If your swing has a different hook, it is not part of this recall on the information published. Next, check the packaging if you still have it. The SKUs printed on the side of the package are LS-COMP-1BLU or LS-COMP-1BLU-SW. If either code matches, treat the swing as recalled even if it has never failed. The 29 separation reports show that the failure can happen after a period of normal use, and waiting for a visible warning sign is exactly what the recall is designed to prevent.

Once you have confirmed the model, stop using the swing and register for the repair. Harkla is offering a free repair kit that includes a replacement ceiling hook mounting plate, a safety strap and updated installation instructions. Owners are asked to register online at the company's recall page, harkla.co/pages/ceiling-hook-recall-2026, or through the main Harkla website by clicking Recall at the top of the page. Harkla can also be reached toll-free at 844-442-7552 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, or by email at recall@harkla.co. After the repair is fitted, the original hooks should be disposed of in accordance with local waste and recycling rules, so that a faulty hook cannot be reused or passed on by mistake.

Do not improvise a fix while waiting for the kit. A generic hook, a different plate, or a hardware-store substitute has not been tested as part of this recall remedy, and the whole point of the kit is that it replaces the specific assembly that failed. Keep the swing down, out of reach, or clearly marked as out of use until the new mounting plate and safety strap are installed following the updated instructions. If the swing was bought second-hand, or received as a gift, the same remedy applies: register with Harkla using the product details, rather than assuming that only the original buyer can claim the kit.

Reactions and Official Guidance

The CPSC's position, as published in the recall, is that the ceiling hook can separate from its plate and pose a risk of serious injury from a fall, and that consumers should stop using the swings immediately until they are repaired. Harkla's published remedy matches that instruction: a free repair kit, registration online, and a phone and email contact for owners who need help. Neither the CPSC summary nor the company's recall page, as reported, announces a refund programme for this product. The remedy on offer is repair, not a refund or a replacement swing, and families should not assume a refund will follow if they dispose of the product on their own.

The recall also sits inside a wider 30 October 2026 safety roundup that shows how broad the current wave of product warnings is. The same roundup includes a recall of about 338,800 DREO ceramic space heaters after 17 reports of units catching fire, a recall of about 11,000 HAIARA power banks after 600 fire and overheating reports, and warnings about smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that may fail to sound. The Harkla case is different in kind: it is not a fire or battery failure, but a single mechanical fixing that carries a child's full weight. That distinction is worth noting because the check is so simple. A parent does not need a laboratory test to identify this recall. A look at the hook, and at the SKU on the packaging, is enough to decide whether to act.

Why It Matters

Fourteen injuries from 29 reported failures is a high injury rate for a household product, and the types of injury explain why regulators treated this as a serious fall hazard rather than a minor defect. A concussion in a child is not a bruise that fades in a day. It can mean a hospital visit, time off school, follow-up checks, and worry about a second head injury. A broken arm means a cast, possible hospital treatment, and weeks of restricted play. Even the less severe reported injuries, bumps and bruises, show that children were falling from a height with no warning. A swing that fails suddenly gives a child no chance to brace, step off, or be caught, which is why the CPSC's stop-use instruction is so firm.

The case also matters because the product is used by children who may be less able to judge risk or to report a wobble in the hardware before it fails. Parents and carers are the safety check for a ceiling-mounted swing, and most will never inspect a hook that looks solid from the ground. The recall turns that invisible risk into a visible one: check the hook, check the SKU, and do not use the swing until the kit is fitted. For schools, therapy practices, nurseries and other settings that may have bought the same model in bulk, the same check should be run across every unit, not just the one a child happens to be using this week. A single failed hook in one room is a warning about every identical hook in the building.

What Happens Next

The immediate next step belongs to owners: register for the free repair kit, keep the swing out of use, and fit the replacement mounting plate and safety strap when they arrive, following the updated instructions. Harkla has not published a deadline for registration in the recall summaries, and owners should not wait for a second notice. If the packaging is gone and the hook cannot be confirmed, contacting Harkla with photos of the swing and its hardware is the safest route, using the recall phone number or email above.

Regulators will watch for further incident reports, as they do after every recall, and any new reports of separation after repair would change the picture. For now, the published facts point to a defined product, a defined failure, and a defined fix. The wider lesson for buyers of ceiling-mounted children's equipment is equally clear: keep the packaging and the SKU, photograph the mounting hardware on installation day, and check the CPSC recall list whenever a product is handed down, resold or moved to a new home. A swing that has hung safely for years can still be the one whose hook separates next, and the Harkla recall is a reminder that the hardware above a child's head deserves the same attention as the seat the child sits in.
